The Scars we Carry

We all have scars on our bodies. Some are physically seen and others may be invisible, but that does not mean they are not there. Whether your battle scars are physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual you have to remember you have made it through a difficult season in life. You have learned and have had the opportunity to grow. Your scars are living proof that you are a warrior who has won a hard battle.

Do not be afraid to show your scars, they are a part of your story. As you become more comfortable with your scares, you remember your untold story of survival. You are stronger than what hurt you. You wear a story on your skin, of how your body has been ripped with insecurity and sewn back together with forgiveness.

For those of you who do not know, a few years ago I underwent hip surgery and months later I decided to go to the beach. Seeing the scars on my upper left thigh reminded me of the trauma I had endured. Although I was not embarrassed by them, it was a reminder of a season in life.

For me, my scar means that the hurt is over, the wound is closed, I endured the pain, and God has healed me. The scare that was once a source of pain is not a celebration of survival. Behind my scars is an untold story of survival. I show my scars so that others know that can heal.

Look at your scar. What do you see? Not only do I see beauty, but a story that is never wasted.
